Royally deserving winners

Artistic pupils from Ledbury Primary School in Herefordshire scooped top prizes at this year’s Royal Three Counties show in the annual Children’s Art and Design Poster Competition.

Calle Warren aged 11, was declared the overall winner of the competition and was also awarded first place in the nine –eleven-year-old age category. Calle received a cash prize of £30, and her school received a £200 cash prize.

Calle will now see her design in print when it is used as the Society’s official Christmas card for 2016.

Her fellow successful pupils in the five to eight-year-old category, were Ben Smith, who was awarded a second prize of £20, and Sophie Fleeting, who was awarded third place receiving £15. And in the nine – eleven –year-old category Alex Clark was awarded third prize of £15.

We sponsored the competition which attracted around 600 entries from young artists from schools across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Pupils were invited to use their skill and imagination to design a painting or drawing illustrating ‘What Christmas means to me’.

WPD’s Corporate Communication Manager Paul Bishop said: “The overall standard of entries was excellent. Each year the youngsters manage to delight us with their creative ideas.”

Prize-winning posters were on display at Western Power Distribution’s award winning stand during the Show.
